Bodywise - mind-body medicine - somatic awareness

Bodywise Somatics mind-body medicine practice

It is the combination of neuroscience and somatic practices including  postural awareness, touch, breath, stretching and mobilisation all combined to retrain the body-mind and allow integration and healing.

Bodywise is a method to reduce pain and stress, improve focus, learning and sleep and enhance performance, mood and relationships.

Neuroplasticity means the brain is changeable, the brain and nervous system can change for the better.

Bodywise is suitable for all ages, is gentle, non invasive and empowering.

Further reflections

I use the intelligence of the mind and body to improve performance and enhance well-being reducing injuries and chronic pain. Body-based coaching draws together the large field of somatic therapies and current neuroplasticity research.

Drawing on the ability of the brain and nervous system to rewire, changing its connections, function and structure in response to internal and external stimulus is what I term "somatic integration".

My work starts with the whole person and goes deeper than treating symptoms or discomfort.

Treatments are dynamic, drawing on my many years of experience and training and employing a blend of techniques depending on the individual.

Health is a state of wellbeing, involving the body, mind, and spirit, and no part can be separated from the whole.

My journey into health care started at 13 after numerous horse riding falls caused a serious back injury. Chiropractic provided much-needed relief and the start of a life-long enquiry. I studied at RMIT Melbourne and completed my final year at the Anglo European Chiropractic College and the British School of Osteopathy in London.

My studies continued with a Grad Dip in Dance and Movement, Craniosacral Therapy, Bowen Technique, Alexander Technique, Paediatric Chiropractic and Embodied Somatic Practice. I worked in rehabilitation, lectured in the Chiropractic and Osteopathic programs at RMIT and worked as a clinical associate before establishing my own multidiscipline practice in Melbourne. Motherhood led to my tree change and the creation of Healing Well in Castlemaine. My desire to share with others led to my studies in Coaching and the creation of Lifewise Coaching Mind and Body.

My most recent qualification is in coaching and resilience building. I now coach and mentor people from all walks of life, to help them achieve improvements in health, change in lifestyle, and personal or professional growth and combine this alongside my bodywork practice.
